EMI Professional Development
The RCEMI is dedicated to promote EMI teacher competence through courses of professional development. Starting in 2024, in collaboration with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the RCEMI has redesigned the “English as Medium of Instruction” course as the backbone of EMI teacher training. NTNU plans to integrate AI technology and expert instructors to co-construct an integrated course that combines speaking, reading, and writing. This comprehensive program, coupled with AI practice tools, aims to cultivate teachers’ theoretical and practical abilities to teach subject content in English. Simultaneously, NTNU, in partnership with AIT, co-organizes the EMI entry-level course titled “My EMI Starting Pack: How to EMI,” providing lectures to assist teachers in understanding basic EMI concepts and teaching strategies.
Detailed information on the content of these two distinct courses is documented in the following project details, available for reference by interested participants. Individuals can choose to participate in either one or both projects based on their personal learning needs. Both projects offer completion certificates, and participants who successfully complete either one or both projects will receive a certificate jointly issued by NTNU and AIT.
The Program consists of two parts, “Online Course” and “Final Presentation”:
I. Online Course: “English as Medium of Instruction”
The online course consists of 12 modules, totaling 80 hours, and participants must complete it between March 1 and May 15, 2024. Members will gain comprehensive concepts and strategies for EMI teaching, including course design, teaching strategies, assessment methods, and teaching support. Participants are required to use the Moodle platform provided by RCEMI for course completion. Apart from the online course, the center will organize online lectures, allowing participants to choose topics of interest to strengthen their individual EMI professional knowledge.
II. Final Presentation
In addition to the “Online Course”, Participants of the Program are also required to attend the “Final Presentation” organized by RCEMI on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024. This year’s presentation will be hosted by the EMI Pilot Instructors from National Taiwan Normal University and the Participants are expected to share and exchange their EMI teaching experience in different disciplines. The Participants should reserve the date for the presentation; each Participant will be notified of the event agenda. All presentations will be posted on the RCEMI website.
