
EMI TA Talent and Leadership Course
RCEMI is responding to the increasing demand for EMI teaching assistants due to the active expansion of EMI courses in various colleges and universities. The Center will continue its EMI TA Professional Development Program, which has been implemented in the past, through the “EMI Basic Skills Training Course” and the “EMI TA Training Course.” By providing “EMI TA Talent and Leadership Courses”, both synchronously and asynchronously online, students will have the opportunity to learn and deepen their professional teaching skills as EMI teaching assistants without geographical limitations, thus becoming bilingual professionals in their respective fields. Simultaneously, through resource sharing and collaborative exchanges, the Center aims to enhance the teaching momentum of EMI courses in various colleges and universities and improve student learning outcomes.
Targeted Students:
- Undergraduate and graduate students from various colleges and universities are eligible to apply.
- Students who have completed EMI courses, served as EMI Teaching Assistants (TAs), or wish to enhance their EMI course participation skills and improve their EMI TA abilities are welcome to apply.

Note:
- Only online individual registration will be accepted. Late registrations will not be accepted.
- Applicants may provide the name and contact information of a recommending teacher on the application form. In cases of a large number of applicants, those who submit a list of recommended teachers on the application form will be given priority.

Course Description:
- Required Courses
- EMI Basic Skills Training Course
- This course was developed by the Teaching Development Center of the Academic Affairs Office of National Taiwan Normal University. It adheres to the concept of “beginning with the end in mind” and focuses on exploring how to become a competent EMI course teaching assistant. Through a series of contextualized course objectives, this course allows students to fully understand EMI courses, EMI course learning strategies, and how to communicate effectively in EMI courses.
- It is conducted in an online asynchronous manner and includes three topics: “Role Positioning and Tasks of Teaching Assistants in EMI Courses”, “Learning and Leadership in EMI Courses” and “Communication in EMI Courses”, covering 9 course modules in a total of 3 hours.
- EMI Basic Skills Training Course
- EMI TA Training Course
- This course aims to enable students to continue to improve their professional knowledge and abilities as EMI TAs, and guide students to acquire professional knowledge of EMI course design and language expression in EMI courses, thereby promoting reflection and innovative thinking.
- It is conducted in an online asynchronous manner, covering two topics: “EMI Course Design” and “EMI Course Language Expression”, covering 6 course modules, totaling 5 hours.
- Speaking Practice
- This speaking practice module was developed by the EMI Teaching Resource Center of National Taiwan Normal University. It combines AI technology tools to provide students with opportunities to practice English speaking, with the purpose of improving EMI TA’s ability to communicate in English in the classroom.
- Students are asked to use the account provided by the center to log in to the AI speaking practice platform and complete the speaking practice course module.
- After-class online evaluation and discussion area
- Please take the post-course online assessment after watching the course video. Students must pass the assessment to complete the course.
- Please post at least once in the discussion area. The content can be sharing course experience, asking questions, or replying to other students’ posts.
- EMI TA Training Course
2. Elective courses: Students must register for and complete at least one EMI online lecture conducted by our center as an elective course. Detailed information will be announced on the center’s website, and students will be notified of the lecture registration schedule via email.
3. Course schedule: from 9:00 on March 13, 2020 (Wednesday) to 23:00 on April 30, 2020 (Tuesday). For required courses, please use the Moodle platform account provided by the center to log in and take courses.
4. Note: If for any reason you are unable to complete this EMI Talent and Leadership Course as scheduled, please notify us by letter in advance. The center will retain the student’s qualification to participate in this training course depending on the situation.
Final Presentation
- EMI TA Demonstration
- Each trainee must choose 3 situations with different themes from the “EMI TA Demonstration Situation List” provided by the center, and use the EMI talents and leadership knowledge learned in the training course to record a 5-8 minute demonstration video.
- The demonstration video can be presented in the form of “situational drama”, “narration” or “question and answer”, etc., whichever way best demonstrates the professional knowledge and abilities of the individual EMI TA.
- Students must submit the “EMI TA Demonstration Video” before 23:00 on April 30, 2024 (Tuesday). Those who pay late will lose the qualification to participate in the semester and obtain the “EMI TA Certification”.
- The center will provide the review opinions of the “EMI TA Demonstration Video” to each student before May 20, 2024 (Monday), and at the same time issue an “EMI TA Certification Certificate” and present an “EMI Course Teaching Assistant Professional Training Course Resource Manual” A copy for students who have completed the EMI Talent and Leadership Programme.
- Our center will select 8 winners from the videos to enter the second stage to participate in the “EMI TA Competition”. The selected list will be announced on the center’s website and selected students will be notified via email.
- EMI TA Competition
- Students selected for the second stage of the “EMI TA Competition” must refer to the review opinions of the “EMI TA Demonstration Video” given by the review committee, integrate their own learning experience in the EMI Talent and Leadership Course Program, and write the “EMI TA” in accordance with the format provided by the center. “Study and Reflection” and submit it before 16:00 on May 31, 2024 (Friday). Those who pay late will be disqualified from participating in the “EMI TA Competition”.
- The center will select the first place (1 place), second place (1 place), third place (1 place), excellence (3 places), and AI based on the “EMI TA Study and Reflection” submitted by the students. x EMI Distinguished Award (2 people), certificates and bonuses will be awarded.
- The final list of winners of the “EMI TA Competition” will be announced on the center’s website before the end of June 2024. The winning students will be notified by email at that time, and the EMI teaching results presentation and seminar will be held on June 26, 2024 (Wednesday). Awards.
- Students selected for the “EMI TA Competition” must participate in the EMI Teaching Results Presentation and Seminar held by our center on June 26, 2024(Wednesday) to share their learning experiences and insights.
- Note
- If for some reason you are unable to submit the “EMI TA Demonstration Video” as scheduled, please come to our center in advance. The center will decide whether to retain the student qualifications of the EMI Talent and Leadership Course Program until the next semester based on the situation.
- Students are requested to complete the course in accordance with the schedule announced by the center and submit the EMI TA demonstration video on time. Failure to do so will be deemed as giving up participation in this EMI talent and leadership course plan.
Certificate of Completion:
Students are requested to complete the following four tasks before 23:00 on April 30, 2024 (Tuesday):
- Completion of required courses: Completion of Moodle required courses, including watching all course videos, passing post-course online assessments, completing AI speaking exercises, and posting or answering in the discussion forum at least once.
- Completion of elective courses: Participate in at least 1 EMI online lecture conducted by our center.
- Release of completed results: Submit the “EMI TA Demonstration Video”.
- After completing tasks 1-3 above, fill out the course feedback questionnaire.
- For students who meet the above course completion standards, our center will issue an “EMI TA Certification” on May 20, 2020 (Monday), and give them a copy of the “EMI Course Teaching Assistant Professional Training Course Resource Manual” compiled by our center.
Awards:
- Award announcement: Announced on the center’s website in June 2013, and winners will be notified by email.
- Display: Award-winning works (including study and reflection files, photos, videos, etc. submitted by students) will be retained by the center and shared publicly.
